Strawberry Moon Magic

Saturday, 26th June 2010 is a Full Moon known as the Strawberry Moon

Getting a drink of water from our kitchen around midnight, I had no need to turn on the lights. The large round moon, dressed in a gorgeous creamy yellow was pouring bright shining light through the window, looking so mysterious and magical!

Indulging in my favourite hobby, surfing on the Internet (I'm so glad I live in this age with all the amazing technology) - did you know that the full moon of each month has a name?

June is known as the Strawberry Moon (also Rose or Sun Moon).

The reason for the name is long ago, the Native Americans of North America kept track of the seasons by giving descriptive names to the recurring Full Moons. June was a time to pick ripening strawberries thus - Strawberry Moon. In Europe they named the June Full Moon the Rose Moon. And in India and China and other countries - the visible Full Moon was named according to their climate and culture.

The moon has always been symbolic in Pagan and Wiccan practises; I think we are all drawn, just like the tides of the oceans, to the mystery and wonder of the moon.

Saturday, 26th June 2010 is a Full Moon - Strawberry Moon

Let's celebrate this mysterious lunar wonder and magic up my raw and delicious nutritious Strawberry Moon Magic Smoothie!

Recipe for Strawberry Moon Magic Smoothies By Barbs @ SynchronicityHouse
 (Serving - 1 person)

        1 Banana
        1 1/2 Cups of Strawberries
1 large spoon of Hempseed (hulled)
About 1 cup of filtered water

Put all the fruit, water and hempseed into a blender and mix until creamy.
The hempseed will give the smoothie a creamy texture.
Add more or less water depending on whether you enjoy a thicker or thinner smoothie.
Pour into a glass.

Now for some mystical fun.

Go into the garden with your Strawberry Moon Magic Smoothie and hold or stand your glass so that the Strawberry Moon moonlight falls in your glass.  Make a wish.
Drink your lovely smoothie and imagine all the goodness going into every cell in your body - all under the mysterious gaze of the Strawberry Moon.  Soak up and love the peace of the moment.

Let's see if magic happens!

Delicious Nutritious Beelicious Smoothie

Wow, Harr and I have just made one of our best RAW Smoothies ever in the quest of a RAW Lifestyle!

It's so simple - we only used Pineapple and Banana and a few superfoods; but OMG!  What bliss.  It was filling and delicious and wholly satified my sweet tooth almost as much as chocolate.

Here's the recipe:

Beelicious Banana Pine Smoothie

1 Pineapple - peeled
  2 Bananas
Maca Powder (1 or 2 teaspoons)
Bee Pollen (1 teaspoon)

Chop up pineapple into small pieces and put into a blender with a cup water and whizz up.  Add the banana, a teaspoon or two of Bee Pollen and Maca.  Blend till smooth (add more water if you like).

Isn't this the most Beelicious drink - healthy and full of superb superfoods.

I wonder if this would freeze as ice cream?

Remember..........
Read and research EVERYTHING widely and wisely - then decide for yourself what works for YOU!

Maca - tastes very like Horlicks:
  •  Is a great addition to desserts, sweet treats and icecreams.
  • Has an amazing synergistic effect when combined with Raw Cacao Nibs or Powder.
  • Makes a delicious nutritious addition to home made RAW Cacao Chocolate.
  • Turns an ordinary green smoothie into a power food.

Are you ready to power up with this sought after, energy boosting Superfood?

Maca, grows in the Andes mountains, typically at altitudes of over 12,000 feet.  The soils of these high plateaus are extremely rich in minerals which probably accounts for the amazing array of minerals and health benefits of Maca.

Like many Superfoods, Maca  was highly regarded and used in some cases as a currency!

Maca is a root vegetable, has a likeness to a small turnip and is a complete protein, containing high amounts of enzymes, vitamins, amino acids and minerals such as zinc, calcium, iron and potassium.

There are legends that Incan warriors used to eat Maca before going into battle, believing it would give them invincible strength and stamina!

RAW Food Quest leads to delicious Smoothies!

On this RAW Food Quest, we got into Smoothies - I love Smoothies.  It's a super quick way to non-cook and enjoy combinations of different fruits and vegetables that keep hunger at bay, increase your energy levels and health.

I started out in the beginning by having Smoothies when I got indoors after work.  Popping fruit and veg into a blender with a cup or so of water for a delicious sustaining drink, ready in less than five minutes.  But then I noticed I had loads more energy in the evenings.

Life before Smoothies: I would collapse exhausted in front of the TV for the evening and then trundle off to bed.
Life after a few weeks of Smoothies:   more energy - I'm even doing a Blog!

Now we have Smoothies in the morning as well as the evenings and it's such fun trying out different combinations of fruit and veg - absolutely delicious (although a few combinations were definitely not moreish!)

This evening Harrington made a smoothie using beetroot which gave the drink the most gorgeous colour and tasted as good as it looked.  Here's our Recipe:

Crimson Blood Infusion

Half a pineapple (peel and cut up into small pieces)
1 Beetroot (peel and slice finely)
1 Passion Fruit
1 Cup of Water
A sprinkle of Bee Pollen

Put into a blender and whizz up the mixture for a minute or so.  Pour into glasses and Enjoy!

We get our excellent quality Bee Pollen from Peter and Beryn Daniel    - their website is http://www.soaringfree.co.uk/

Wishing you an awesome 2010

My New Year wish for you:

May 2010 for you be peaceful, prosperous, joyful, innovative, creative, passionate and exciting. With good health, happiness, personal achievements and lots of time to spend with loved ones.

Anyone made any New Year Resolutions?  Normally my New Year Resolutions are huge and, like lots of people according to the statistics, are kept for a couple of weeks and then (guiltily) forgotten.  Well, my New Year Resolutions for 2010 are simple and will be easy and fun to keep!  I'm going to let Synchronicity rule in 2010!

  • Be more daring - trying out new RAW foods and non cooking dishes and ideas - I've lost two stone in total following this quest to a RAW food diet and it's so easy to maintain my new weight - I love it!  Trying out stress busters like meditation; checking out different keep fit options locally to me and maybe even joining classes on a regular basis.  I want to keep it simple; but move away from normal!
  • Budgets (or sometimes lack of it!) won't hold me back - there is so much to try and do and see - for free or little cash - I have found loads of useful ideas and tips on the Internet to enjoy the credit crunch and I'm going to explore some of them - I'll share these in my blogs, another reason now for me to keep this Resolution. Keep me posted if you find anything exciting!
  • Learn a new skill --- there is no excuse for me not to --- colleges for affordable evening courses; AND there are some brilliant websites offering free courses.
  • Broaden my horizons.  Keeping to my Simple theme, I am going to look for new places to do my food shopping - now that our path has led to a mostly RAW food diet, we eat loads of vegetables and fruit - and I would like more of it to be local or UK produce.  Get out and explore more Farmers markets, organic food shops and farm shops and find places to pick my own fresh local fruit and veg.
Anyone know where to pick your own in winter months?

Read and Research EVERYTHING wisely and widely!

The benefits of following a more RAW diet are amazing and numerous, especially the almost two stone in weight that I have lost - without trying! I want to share the little I have learned and am still learning.

Mind you, no sooner do I discover health and happiness eating RAW foods like avacado, kale, Hemp Seeds, Nuts or Superfoods like Goji Berries, Cacao Nibs, Cacao Powder, Agave Nectar, Cacao Butter and making my own delicious nutritious Cacao Chocolate Bliss, you can be sure that somewhere there will be an article on the internet or in a magazine or someone saying these things are not good. Have you noticed that?

My philosophy now in life is: Read and Research EVERYTHING wisely and widely; then decide for yourself what works for YOU!
Check out this website for great products - http://www.soaring-free.co.uk - this is where we buy all our Superfoods like Coconut Oil, Maca Powder, Cacao, Agave Nectar and Bee Pollen

A RAW Food Quest - a new Life Path

Ever noticed how we take different paths at certain stages of our lives? Our path at this time seems to leading us on a RAW Food Quest.

The benefits of a RAW diet are amazing – and something I am so happy about is research is now proving that Nuts like Brazil Nuts , Walnuts, Cashew Nuts, Almonds and Seeds like Hempseed, Pumpkin Seeds, Sesame Seeds and Sunflower Seeds are actually GOOD for you – but, remember......like everything in life, moderation is the key!

After spending time with our RAW foodist friends, Peter and Beryn Daniel of Soaring Free (check out their fantastic website
http://www.superfoods.co.za/), who were at the forefront of the RAW food lifestyle in South Africa, my son decided that their RAW food way of life was the path he wanted to follow.

Just by wanting to be a supportive Mum, joining my son in his RAW food quest, adding Nuts, Seeds, RAW fruit and RAW vegetables, Smoothies, Superfoods like Maca Powder, Agave Nectar and Coconut Oil ( check out this website for some the best Superfoods we have tried
http://www.soaring-free.co.uk/) and fantabulous Cacao Chocolate (I have a perfect recipe to make the best Cacao Chocolate ever!); the side effect has been a weight loss of about 20 lbs in less than six months, more energy and greater wellbeing. Interestingly, I was so focused on trying to include lots of RAW food into our diet, that losing weight wasn’t even on my agenda. So what a bonus! And it's been so easy! (This comes from someone who has been a yoyo dieter, on and off diets for decades!!!).

And after years and years and years...of eating cooked food, this is a real learning curve. Although we still eat meat and chicken and fish, our portions are a lot smaller and not every day. We do have green smoothies everyday - my son is a star at making these - lots of vegetables, salads, fruits, nuts etc and as little as possible of processed commercial foods. BUT we choose to eat only the foods whether RAW or cooked, that we enjoy and love!

I haven't found many RAW food magazines yet; but came across this fabulous magazine a little while ago and I love it. It's got loads of information and the most amazing recipes ever!  You can also download some of their older magazines for free - how great is that?
